Boundless Learning goes back to 1995 when it was founded as Embanet Corp ato provide online learning services for postsecondary institutions.[2]

In December 2004, Embanet relocated to a new 53,000 square foot world headquarters to enhance its capabilities in hosting, 24/7 technical support, student retention, student acquisition, and accreditation.[3]

In 2010, Embanet merged with Orlando-based Compass Knowledge Group, which provided services such as market research, program marketing, student recruitment, and instructional design.[4] The merger was supported by Technology Crossover Ventures.[4] The combined entity was renamed as EmbanetCompass.[4]

In 2012, Pearson acquired EmbanetCompass for $650 million.[5] The acquisition allowed Pearson to expand its services in assisting colleges with the transition of their academic programs to online platforms.[5]

In 2023, Pearson Online Learning Services was separated from Pearson when it was acquired by Athena Education.[6][7][8] Following the acquisition, Pearson Online Learning Services was rebranded as Boundless Learning.[9]
