Brad Davis (born 1993) is an American realist painter working in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Early life
editBrad Davis (born in Cincinnati, Ohio) is an American contemporary artist. He grew up in Belfast, Ohio and attended High School in Wilmington, Ohio, where his father, Doug Davis, was an elementary art teacher. During his childhood Brad spent much of his time watching his father draw and learning from him, which lead him to pursue his own artistic career. In 2016, he earned his BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, and his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2018.
Painting Style
editDavis' paintings aim to uncover and uplift the discarded and overlooked within his urban surroundings. He draws inspiration from the city's rich history and character found in the architecture and inhabitants of his daily life.
He utilizes methods of traditional oil painting and an aesthetic that pulls from American painters such as John Sloan, Edward Hopper, and Thomas Eakins.
Teaching
editDavis is currently a resident instructor at Manifest Drawing Center, and an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning (DAAP).
Exhibition
editBrad's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including the 2018 XL Catlin Art Prize traveling show and group exhibition Lang Leve Rembrandt at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. His paintings are in the permanent collections of the Union League of Philadelphia and Capitol One Bank.
