Brian Wandzilak, born September 12th, 1980, is a teacher working at North Star mainly teaching classes having to do with economics. He has contributed a lot to North Star. He graduated high school, Lincoln Southeast High School in 1999. He then went on to attend the University of Nebraska and graduated 2003 with a bachelor’s of science secondary education, graduated Nebraska Wesleyan in 2007 with a master’s in historical studies, and he got his master’s in economics education at the University of Nebraska. He is an incredibly educated person deserving of his own Wikipedia page.
Wandzilak, also known as Wandzi to his students, is a father of 4 young children. Evan, Olivia, Eleanor, and Leo. One of the worst things someone can go through in life is witnessing a loved one in a vulnerable position, which he witnesses everyday. His youngest son is diagnosed with a heart disease. Family is the most important aspect to Wandzi’s life, and even with a big obstacle in his course he doesn’t fail in showing it.
Wandzi is a teacher at Lincoln North Star High School, starting only a year after the school was opened in fall of 2004. As stated before, he got his education from the University of Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan. However, Nebraska isn’t where Wandzi spent all his life. He got his first teaching job in Colorado and spent one year there before moving back to Nebraska. Here, he teaches Advanced Placement Seminar, AP Research, Survey Economics, and AP Macroeconomics. He had once taught Government and Politics (both AP and survey), Geography (differentiated and survey), Civics (differentiated and survey) and even Spanish 1! Wandzi has clearly advised hundreds of students in his teaching career, adding on to their knowledge.
If you were to ask Wandzi what his favorite hobby is, he would respond with running. And this is evident in how revolved his life is around it. He has trained many students, hosted events, and received awards. One of those rewards being LTC Distinguished Service Award 2018 from the Lincoln Track Club. He is the head coach at North Sar for cross country which he takes pride in. He recently hosted a marathon as well. For Wandzi, running is something he prioritizes along with his family and students.
Overall, Brian Wandzilak has contributed an immense amount to many young people’s lives. Whether it be his kids, students, or runners. While being an accomplished teacher, and even person, he wanted to share a message to his students. His message to his students is ‘Work Hard and Play Nice. Being successful at school (and in life) is that simple. Rise to it!’.
