The British Horse Council (or BHC) was created in 2018 as a Community Interest Company or CIC.[1] It replaced the British Horse Industry Confederation and the Equine Sector Council for Health & Welfare. The Council was created to represent all parts of the equine industry and where there is consensus, to speak with Government and similar bodies.
General Election manifestoes
editIn 2019, the BHC issued a manifesto calling for Government support for an industry worth £8 billion to the UK economy.[2]
In 2024, the BHC put out a manifesto for the General Election, describing the horse industry in terms of its size, breadth, value and profile. The manifesto described how the Government could help the £9 billion industry to flourish.[3][4]
Consultation
editIn 2022, the British Horse Council helped the Defra collect views on the future of horse passports.[5] In 2024, the council collected views on the importation of horses from the EU.[6]
