Buddy Pittman was the former head of HR for the Dallas Mavericks. He was hired in 1998 and only fired in 2018 after reports from Sport Illustrated following a lengthy investigation in 2017 came out that he presided over what more than a dozen current and ex-employees characterize the Mavs' hostile work environment—ranging from sexual harassment to domestic violence—as an “open secret."[1] In his time at the Mavericks, Pittman was known to express strong views against abortion and gay marriage which made employees hesitant to come to him with concerns. Further, Pittman was aware that one of his employees, Earl K. Sneed, had been criminally charged with domestic abuse but continued to employee him. Sneed later began dating a Mavericks employee and also domestically abused her. Sneed nevertheless remained employed by the team until the Sports' Illustrated report came out in 2018. Throughout the period that Sneed became hired and remained employed, Pittman was the head of HR.[1]
