Budimir Šobat (born 1965), commonly known as "Buda," is a Croatian former body builder and freediver. He is a Guinness World Record holder, renowned for his achievements in static apnea and depth freediving.

Career in Freediving

Budimir Šobat involved in the sport of freediving, particularly in the discipline of static apnea, which involves holding one’s breath underwater without movement.

In 2018, Šobat set his first Guinness World Record in static apnea, holding his breath for 24 minutes and 11 seconds in a swimming pool. This record, achieved using pure oxygen preparation beforehand, marked the longest breath-hold in this category at the time. Later that year, he also competed in the 2018 CMAS STA World Championship, securing 3rd place with a time of 8 minutes and 17 seconds in static apnea.

Three years later, Šobat broke his own Guinness World Record with longer breath-hold of 24 minutes and 33 seconds. In 2022, he achieved 1st place in the CMAS STA World Championship with static apnea time of 9 minutes and 12 seconds followed by another accomplishment in 2023 with a 3rd place finish at the CMAS STA World Championship, recording a breath-hold time of 9 minutes and 9 seconds.

At the 2023 Adriatic Depth Trophy, he placed 2nd in the Free Immersion (FIM) category, reaching a depth of 71 meters.

Humanitarian Efforts

Inspired by his daughter Saša, who has cerebral palsy, autism, and epilepsy, Šobat has used his public profile to advocate for support for individuals with disabilities. In 2021, when Šobat set a Guinness World Record for the longest breath-hold of 24 minutes and 33 seconds, he used the event to raise funds for children in Sisak, Croatia, affected by a major earthquake in December 2020.
