Button City is a cozy adventure game developed and published by Subliminal for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One. The game has received mixed reviews from critics.[1] A sequel, Button City Soccer Days, was announced in June 2023.[2]
Gameplay
editButton City is an adventure game. As Fennel Fox, players visit their local arcade and join the Fluff Squad, a team including Chive, Sorrel, and Lavender. The narrative is driven forward by quests, as Fennel learns about friendship, save the arcade from a capitalist cat, and compete in an in-game gaming tournament of Gobabots.
The game includes a main quest, multiple side-quests that expand the narrative and character, and mini-games played in the arcade.
Development
editShandiin Yazzie Woodward, Co-Founder and Art Director of Subliminal Gaming, describes the inspiration for Button City as "a mix of childhood nostalgia as well as a love letter to video games".[3]
