C.O.W.L. (Chicago Organized Workers League) is an American comic book series written by Kyle Higgins and Alec Sigel–and illustrated by Rod Reis and Elsa Charretier, published by Image Comics as the first instalment of the fictional superhero universe the Massive-Verse (M-V) and following the world's first superhero labor union. The series began publication on May 28, 2014 and concluded on July 12, 2015 after eleven issues and two volumes. A new volume, C.O.W.L. 1964, was published from August 7, 2024 to April 30, 2025 across four issues.
The series received a universally positive critical reception.[1]
Publication history
[edit]C.O.W.L., based on Higgins' and Siegel's college short film The League,[2] began publication on May 28, 2014, and concluded on July 12, 2015 after eleven issues and two volumes.[3] The second volume, C.O.W.L. 1964, began publication August 7, 2024,[4][5] and concluded after four issues on April 30, 2025 (originally intended to be three issues).

[edit]In June 2022, to tie in with the release of Radiant Black #15, an animated short produced by Tiger Animation and Black Market Narrative entitled Versus | Radiant Black vs. Blaze was released, about Radiant Black facing Blaze from C.O.W.L., with Kyle Higgins directing and co-writing with Alec Siegel.[22]
Reception
