The Camden Home for Friendless Children was started in 1865 to help house orphans from the American Civil War.[1] It dropped the word "Friendless" from their name in around 1945/46. It operated from then on as the "Camden Home for Children and SPCC" until its closing in 1979 due to financial difficulties.
