Camtek Ltd. is an Israeli semiconductor equipment company that develops and manufactures inspection and metrology equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing.[1] The company supplies equipment for wafer inspection and measurement applications, including advanced packaging[2] and memory-related semiconductor production processes.[3] Camtek's shares are traded on Nasdaq and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.
History
[edit]Founded in 1987, Camtek initially developed automated optical inspection solutions. Camtek became public in July 2000[4] raising US$39.2 Million in its Nasdaq initial public offering, and gradually expanded its business into semiconductor inspection and metrology equipment, developing equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing processes designed to improve manufacturing yield and process control. Camtek's systems inspect semiconductor wafers and measure integrated circuits (IC) features during various stages of semiconductor manufacturing.
In July 2017, as part of its corporate reconstructure to become a pure-play semiconductor equipment provider, Camtek sold its PCB business for US$35 Million to a Chinese private-equity fund.[5]
During 2023, Camtek acquired from FormFactor Inc. its metrology division FRT Metrology for $100 million in cash, expanding its capabilities in three-dimensional surface measurement and metrology technologies.[6]
In 2026, Camtek expanded its technological capabilities into artificial intelligence software integration by acquiring Visual Layer, an Israeli developer of visual data management platform tools.[7]
Products and technology
[edit]The company's systems are used in several semiconductor manufacturing applications, including:
- advanced semiconductor packaging
- wafer-level packaging
- memory devices
- chiplets
- compound semiconductors
- High Bandwidth Memory[8]
- CMOS image sensors
- microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)
- radio-frequency (RF) semiconductor devices
Business and Operations
[edit]Camtek operates in the semiconductor capital equipment market, competing with larger inspection and metrology equipment suppliers. The company's products are sold to semiconductor manufacturers, including integrated device manufacturers (IDMs), foundries, and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) companies. Camtek operates internationally, with offices and subsidiaries serving semiconductor manufacturing in Taiwan, China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, the United States, and Europe. Financial publications have reported on Camtek's growth in connection with increasing demand for advanced semiconductor packaging used in AI applications.[3]
Stock market listing
[edit]Camtek is a dual-listed company whose shares trade on both Nasdaq Global Market (ticker: CAMT) and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange under the same symbol. The company files annual reports with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as a foreign private issuer. The company's shares have been included in the TA-35 Index, the benchmark index of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.[3]
