Captain Raghu Raman is a renowned motivational speaker, strategic coach, and leadership advisor. Raghu Raman, who used to be the CEO of the National Intelligence Grid, has had a diverse and fascinating career. He started out in the Indian Armed Forces, where he operated for 12 years.[1]. In his early time in the military, he was involved in various operations in Punjab followed by his contribution to the highest battleground in the world Siachen Glacier.
In 1998, he left the Indian Army and contributed his expertise to Mahindra Group. At Mahindra, he held various leadership roles, beginning with United World Colleges, then serving as CEO of FirstChoice, followed by CEO of Mahindra SSG, and ultimately leading the joint venture between BAE and Mahindra[2].
Early Life and Education
Captain Raghu Raman was born in New Delhi and graduated from Sri Venkateshwara College, Delhi University. His father, Honorary Captain SK Murthy, and his mother, Mala, had no previous military background. Originally, Raman had not thought of a career in the army. However, his mindset changed after noticing the anti-Sikh riots in 1984. He was greatly impacted by the army’s role in handling the chaos and was motivated to enter an association dedicated to such critical work. Determined to follow this path, he decided to join the Indian Army and took the CDS exam to follow this goal.
His Army Life
During his time in the army, Raghu Raman completed more than seven training lessons, covering topics like weapons, armaments, missiles, tactics, commandos, and computers, and gained top grades in all of them.
After finishing 18 months of rigorous training, Raghu Raman was assigned to active combat duties in Punjab, where he fought against terrorists. He also served at the Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world, facing Pakistani troops. Additionally, Captain Raman was deployed internationally to Angola as an aspect of the Indian Army[3]
Corporate Life of Capt. Raghu Raman
Raghu Raman has hands-on knowledge with several projects, giving him substantial knowledge of the corporate and IT industry. He played a key role in setting up the Mahindra United World College, and his outstanding presentation caught the attention of Anand Mahindra, who asked him to join the Mahindra Group in 1998. After working hard and coaching companies such as First Choice, Mahindra SSG, and DLSI Mahindra, Raman was selected as the head of the National Intelligence Grid[4] (NATGRID) under the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Indian Government. Later, he became the President of Risk Management at Reliance Industries Limited.
