Caymmi visita Tom is a bossa nova album released in 1964, the result of a partnership between musicians Antônio Carlos Jobim and Dorival Caymmi.[1][2]
Record
editThe album was recorded by Elenco, an important Brazilian music label based in Rio de Janeiro.[3] The recording began when Antônio Carlos Jobim returned to Brazil after a season in the United States.[1][4]
The album is the result of a visit by the Bahian musician Dorival Caymmi to the newly-arrived Tom Jobim, at the carioca musician's residence, at Barão da Torre street, number 107, in the Ipanema neighborhood.[5][6] For the meeting, Dorival took three of his children to participate in the recording of the album, Nana Caymmi, Dori Caymmi and Danilo Caymmi.[7][8]
Danilo and Dori were responsible for the musical part of the album, with the former playing the guitar and Dori the [1] Tom, Dorival and Nana shared the vocals, while the two hosts also shared the piano.[1]
The recording also featured the musicians Sérgio, on double bass and Edison Machado and Doum on drums.[9] The production was carried out by Aloysio de Oliveira, one of the main producers in the history of the country.[10][11]
