Channel 1 (Arabic: القناة الأولى المصرية) was is First Egyptian TV channel and public entertainment channel owned and operated by Egyptian Radio and Television Union. It broadcasting and aired progeam from Masepro building.[1]
History
editEgyptian Television Channel 1 was first aired on 21 July 1960 as Egyptian Arab Television (EAT) on VHF channel 5 in 10 kw transmitter produced by RCA from America. Second channel, Second Program was launched on 4 November 1961, it original renamed as First Program (later it legalized as Al-Oaula and Al-Thaniya). Thrid channel, Third Program was launched on 24 July 1963 but 3rd program was temporary ended transmission in 1970 due to Egypt lose in six-day war and economic outbreak. Channel 3 was relaunced in 1985 as Cairo network
ERTU 1 and ERTU 2 was started airing color program on 25 December 1973 in Christmas Days in SECAM-B (same as France and Soviet Union), with Channel 1 began airing color on 25 December at 11:47am while Channel 2 began airing color in sameday at 9pm, with first color program is speech by Anwar Sadat on Israeli aggression in Yom Kippur War. in 1977 during Sadat visit to Israel, it start began airing in full-color on both channel.
On 1 May 1991, ERTU has transition of color analog TV broadcasting from SECAM to PAL during Hosni Mubarak as president. The channel has role in 2010-2011 Egyptian Revolution has leading to collapse of Mubarak regime. Now channel is part of National Media Authority (NMA) under Ministry of Information in Prime Minister's Offices of Arab Republic of Egypt since 2017 until present.
