Chun-Mei Hsu (Paiwan language: 1948—) was born in the Kuljaljau tribe of Laiyi Township, Pingtung County, to the Paiwan lja pacekelje family. Her great-grandmother, sakaljalju, was a professional weaver. When she was young, she learned from her grandmother, mother, puljingaw, and father, Chung-Yi Hsu (qebau).[1] In 1994, Chun-Mei Hsu returned to her hometown to set up a studio and learned weaving from Chu-Lan ChenFan (Tjinuai) of the same tribe.[2] In 2021, she was recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a preserver of the important traditional craft of Paiwan tjemenun traditional weaving.[3][4]
