The Churnat Grenade was a improvised defensive grenade made by the founder of the Churnat industry Alekos Papageorgiou, and used by the Greek resistance organization EAM-ELAS during World War II 1941-1944.

editThe needs of the war preoccupied the restless Papageorgiou all this time. He was inspired an method of making improvised defensive grenades with materials he could find in Pharmacies in those years. Almost all Pharmacies without much explanation gave the necessary materials for the needs of the race. Sulfur and potassium chloride. He particularly mentions the Pharmacy of Sporou.
