Claudius Wagemann (June 14, 1974) is a German political scientist and a leading international expert in in qualitative research methods, particularly qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) and empirical research methods in social sciences. and holds a professorship in qualitative social science methodology at Goethe University in Frankfurt,[1] Germany, and his work has significantly contributed to the development of QCA, particularly through his co-authored book Set-Theoretic Methods for the Social Sciences with Carsten Q. Schneider,[2] which is considered a leading resource on QCA and fuzzy-set analysis. His works have been published by Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Springer, Routledge and in numerous journals.
Wagemann completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Konstanz in 1998 and received his doctoral degree from the European University Institute in 2005.[3] His research explores political structures, democracy quality, and interest group dynamics, applying QCA to issues in comparative politics and sociology. His academic journey includes positions at the European University Institute (EUI) as a part-time professor at the School of Transnational Governance,[3] the Italian Institute of Human Sciences in Florence, and The Centre on Social Movement Studies. Claudius also served as a Dean of Studies and a deputy chair of the Goethe University's wide accredition commission.[3]
Wagemann's research often analyzes structural and network characteristics within political entities, such as examining right-wing mobilization across countries or the European Union's political landscape. His interdisciplinary approach combines methods from sociology, political science, and network analysis, making his work relevant across fields focused on empirical research and case study methodologies.
