Clonturk Community College is a public second level educational institution,

established in 2016 and is located in Whitehall, Dublin 9.[1]

The school has roughly 1000 pupils and is on the same grounds as Plunkett College, a third level educational institution.[2]

Facilities

edit

Clonturk Community College consists of a 1 permanent and 4 prefabricated buildings, called blocks, Block A is a permanent building and blocks B,C,D and E are prefabricated. There is currently a request to the Department of Education regarding a new, permanent campus for the school.[3] There is also a basketball court, changing rooms, bicycle parking spaces and grass sports grounds in the school.[4]

History

edit

Clonturk Community College was opened by former principal, Susan Campbell on October 3rd, 2016 and was only excepted to have 260 students,[5] but as time went on, more admissions were submitted to the school with each passing year and is still rising, therefore more temporary buildings had to be constructed.

Criticism

edit

In April of 2021, the school was criticised because of the school's refusal to allow 3 students with intellectual disabilities to sit the Leaving Certificate Applied course. The then Minister of State for Disabilities, Anne Rabitte has criticised the City of Dublin Education and Training Board, the school's parent body, for the lack of inclusivity of the board for the three children, calling on the board to: "go back and take a look at their core values"[2][1]
