"Club Classics" (stylized in sentence case) is a song by English singer Charli XCX, released on April 3, 2024,[1] through Atlantic Records, and served as the first promotional single for Brat along with "B2B" as a double A single.
The song was later remixed with BB Trickz[2] and included as the second track on the remix album, Brat and It's Completely Different but Also Still Brat.
Upon the album's release, it charted and later peaked at number 9 on the UK Official Dance Chart.[3]
The song was also included in her Boiler Room DJ set in Ibiza.[4]
Background
editThe song began in Charli's partner, George Daniel's kitchen.[5] She states in an Instagram post about the song:
"I was talking about missing hearing Sophie’s music as much as I used to at parties and ended up turning this thought into a song about only really wanting to hear my own music and my friends’ music at clubs."[6]
The song was teased multiple times before its release, most notably an extended demo instrumental of the song that was included as the b-side of the Von Dutch physical release as "??????", or "edit".[7]
Reception
editDaniel T. Liu of The Harvard Crimson rated the song a 4.5 out of 5, stating, "On a club dance floor, “Club Classics” is energy on energy. Bold synths rise and break over an addictive elastic bass, and everything is about the “right now,” as the song chants over and over. Charli's signature rhythmical voice rides the beat, creating an urgency to get up to dance and rage. The repeated jolty jumps in the beat only increase this urgency."[8]
