Concept Eyewear Manufacturer Limited (commonly abbreviated as CEM) is a Hong Kong–based eyewear manufacturer specialising in original equipment manufacturing (OEM) and original design manufacturing (ODM) of optical frames and sunglasses.[1][2] The company supplies optical frames and sunglasses to international brands and distributors, operating manufacturing facilities in mainland China and Vietnam.[3]
History
[edit]Concept Eyewear Manufacturer Limited was established in Hong Kong in 1999 as an optical manufacturing company supplying local exporters and overseas customers on an OEM and ODM basis.[2] In 2009, the company built a self-owned industrial unit with a total floor area of 240,000 square feet, comprising three production lines, to accommodate business growth.[1]
The company subsequently expanded its manufacturing footprint into mainland China, with a factory located in Feng Gang, Dong Guan,[1] and later established a dedicated subsidiary in Vietnam: Concept Eyewear Manufacture Viet Nam Company Limited (CEMV).[4]
On 6 September 2025, CEMV held an opening ceremony for its third manufacturing plant in Vietnam, with investor representatives and executive team members in attendance.[5]
Operations
[edit]Concept Eyewear's head office is located at Unit 9, 7/F, Westley Square, 48 Hoi Yuen Road, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong.[6][7] The company also maintains offices in London (United Kingdom) and Fukui (Japan).[1]
The Vietnamese subsidiary, CEMV, is located in Dong Hoa, Phu Yen Province, central Vietnam, and as of September 2025 employed 417 people.[4] Its stated production capacity is approximately 1,900 frames per day (50,000 frames per month), with plans to increase output to around 2,700 frames per day (70,000 frames per month) through automation and process optimisation.[8] Each year, the company produces approximately 4.2 million frames across acetate, injection, and metal frame types.[3]
Products
[edit]Concept Eyewear manufactures acetate, injection-moulded, metal, and titanium optical frames and sunglasses, primarily for third-party brands on OEM and ODM contracts.[1][2] Trade fair listings describe the company's product categories as plastic frames, metal frames, frames in other materials, reading glasses, children's frames, and both plastic and metal sunglasses.[6]
The company has its own molding department and design centres, and produces frames under its own brand name, RATETE, as well as for client brands.[2] The design team develops products for men, women and unisex markets across a range of styles.[1]
In Vietnam, the manufacturing process covers material planning, design, prototyping, cutting, forming, polishing, and final assembly, combining automated machinery with manual craftsmanship.[9]
Sustainability and certifications
[edit]Concept Eyewear's factories use automated and integrated production lines, with over 20% of processes automated, to improve efficiency and product consistency.[3] The Vietnam factory has increased its use of solar power with the stated goal of running production entirely on renewable energy.[3]
According to company materials published via the Mido trade fair, the company holds the following certifications: ISO 9001 (quality management), ISO 14001 (environmental management), SMETA (ethical labour audit), CGMP (current good manufacturing practices), and ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification).[3] The company also states that it adheres to strict Japanese quality standards in its manufacturing processes.[3]
Trade fair participation
[edit]Concept Eyewear is a regular exhibitor at international optical trade fairs. At the Mido Milan eyewear fair (February 2025), the company exhibited in Pavilion 5, Booth U38–U42, in the FAiR East section, where it presented itself as an OEM manufacturer of optical frames and sunglasses.[6] The company also participates in the Hong Kong International Optical Fair and has attended Silmo Paris.[1]
