CosplayNYC Magazine [1]is a defunct publication created by Jason Linetsky and Sereene Brown-Henry, with the first issue created in June 2011 and ran until 2021 in varied annual frequencies.[1]
First Volume History
editA photo shoot, organized by Jason Linetsky and Sereene Brown-Henry, was held in New York City's Bryant Park on June 1, 2011. Cosplayers were invited to be part of the free shoot and told they'd be part of a new cosplay magazine. The first magazine volume and issue was created a week later and offered in digital format for free to all shoot participants.
In July 2011 CosplayNYC introduced readers to the concept of Cosplayer of the Month.[2] Every issue started to feature a local cosplayer on the cover with an interview and spread of photos featuring all of their past costumes. It was also the first issue with photographic coverage of local events and conventions. Issues were published under the banner of Nakama Productions.
The August 2011 issue gave readers the first chance to learn about their favorite stars as CosplayNYC began to interview voice actors and others at conventions.[3]
In 2012 CosplayNYC merged the November and December issues to become the Winter issue. Two years later July and August were merged for the Summer issue. Changes continued into 2015 with the Summer issue being monthly again, however, readers began to see bi-monthly issues beginning with the Sept/Oct 2015 issue. The magazine's final issue for the first volume was Sept/Oct 2016.
Second Volume - COVID Rebirth
editCosplayNYC Magazine came back into production in July 2020 as the staff remained confined to their houses because of the COViD-19 pandemic. Produced as "Volume 2," the magazine ran from July 2020 to February 2021.
