Cynthia (Cyndi) Coon is an American artist, writer, producer, and futurist known for her work in applied threatcasting and futurecasting. She splits her time between the Sonoran desert of Arizona and the high mountain desert of New Mexico. Coon is the Founder and CEO of Laboratory5 Inc., (2003) where she collaborates with government agencies, the military, higher education institutions, and NGOs on projects ranging from Threatcasting to information shaping to prototyping to experiential research. She is the co-founder of the Threatcasting Lab at Arizona State University.[1]
Early life and education
editCyndi Coon was born in Fremont, Michigan, and spent her early years in Holton, Michigan, before moving to various locations in Texas during her lower elementary school years. Her family eventually returned to Twin Lake, Michigan, where she resided until her graduation from Holton High School in 1992.[2]
Coon pursued higher education at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She further expanded her artistic education at the Ox-Bow School of Art (1994), the Accademia Di Bella Arti in Perugia, Italy (1995), and the New School Parsons School of Design in New York (1996). Coon completed her Masters of Fine Art at Arizona State University, focusing on community-based, temporary public engagements known as Social Practice.[3]

She has worked with government agencies, the military, higher education institutions, NGOs, and nonprofits, focusing on applied Futurecasting, Threatcasting, prototyping, information shaping, and experiential research.
