Early Life

edit

Krochmal grew up in the suburb of North Caulfield, in Melbourne, Australia. He attended Caulfield Grammar School, and studied audio engineering at JMC Academy. He wrote an unpublished 92,000 word novel at the age of 17, before teaching himself how to play the guitar.

Career

edit

In 2014, after releasing his debut album, “City At Midnight”[1], he was selected as one of ten acts internationally to perform at the 17th Annual Jeff Buckley tribute concert at Uncommon Ground in Chicago.[2] He subsequently relocated to New York City’s East Village in 2015 and performed at many world renowned venues, including Rockwood Music Hall, Mercury Lounge,[3] The Bitter End, and Pianos. He opened at sold out shows for acts like Fatai (at Rockwood Music Hall) and Reeve Carney (at Mercury Lounge).[4][5]

In 2016, he was a featured interviewee in Sony Music’s “You & I” documentary about Jeff Buckley’s early career, representing the new generation of original artists inspired by his work.[6][7]

In 2018, in response to the Parkland high school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Krochmal released a single, “Pride Before The Fall” denouncing gun violence and the lack of action taken to prevent it.[8] He performed at the March For Our Lives rally in Huntington, Long Island on March 24, 2018.[9] A live video of the song, recorded in Times Square, gained over 31,000 views in several days.

In late 2018, he recorded his second album, “Avenues”. It features Lenny “The Ox” Reece on drums (Demi Lovato, Kimbra, Super Duper Kyle, DJ Premier) and David Cutler on bass (Iggy Azalea, SZA, JT Taylor), and was released on October 30th, 2020.[10]

In 2020, Krochmal was scouted to privately audition for the 19th Season of American Idol. After successfully completing two rounds of virtual auditions for the show’s producers, he was selected to fly out to Ojai, CA, where he performed for Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.[11]

On September 16th, 2022, he released, “Tell Me I’m Alright”, the first single from his third album.[12] Cheers To The Vikings wrote, "The minute we heard this song we fell in love with it and couldn’t get it out of our heads. The lyrics are honest, beautifully written and mesh perfectly with the vocal melodies."[13]

In November, 2022, Krochmal returned to Chicago to pay tribute to Jeff Buckley once again, performing at the 25th Annual Jeff Buckley tribute at Uncommon Ground.[14]

On November 11th, 2022, Krochmal released “FOMO”, the second single from his third studio album.[15][16][17][18] Wolf Georgia of Music Farmer 5 wrote, “Dan Krochmal's vocals are nothing short of mesmerizing, soaring effortlessly across intervals, evoking the passionate intensity of Brandon Flowers from The Killers. His voice melds seamlessly with the energetic instrumentals, creating an unforgettable soundscape that leaves you craving more.”[19]

The album’s third single, “Faith”, was released on May 12th, 2023.[20] On June 16th, 2023, Krochmal released his third album, “Home & Holding”.[21]

In June, 2024, Krochmal performed a two hour set at the United Nations Headquarters in Manhattan for an event hosted by the Permanent Mission of Australia to the United Nations.[22]

In August 2024, Krochmal performed on the Main Street Stage at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA, the largest free music festival in the US.[23][24]

Krochmal currently performs full-time around the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He has performed at many events, including Musikfest and Milford Music Festival,[25] and has spent over 1000 hours on stage at over 350 shows since mid-2021.
