Daniel Brainard Johnson (February 22, 1830 – March 6, 1897)[1] was a justice of the New Mexico Territorial Supreme Court from 1871 to 1872.[2]

Born in Plattsburgh, New York, Johnson attended the schools of his native state, receiving a a technical education for the purpose of preparing him for a career as a civil engineer. After graduating and partaking in that profession for one year he commenced the study of law.[1]

"Daniel B. Johnson, Jr. was appointed in July 1871, but resigned after only a few months".[3]

He was admitted to the supreme court of thejs&te of New York in 1849 anti tlien engaged in the practice in Plattsburg until 1852 In 1852 be removed to Austin Minnesota and there continued the practice of his profession During )is residence in Austin Minnesota he was twice elected and served during two sessions ss a member of the house of representatives and was also twice elected and served during two sessions as a member of the senate ot the stateof Minnesota Tn 1870 he was appointed United States chief justice for the territory of New Mexico by President Grant and fulfilled the duties of that office untilhe resigned on account of ill health in 1873 He then returned to Austin Minn In 1885 he was elected prosecuting attorney of Mower county Minnesota and held that office for four successive terms until 1893 In July 1893 he came to the city of Portland at which place he practiced his profession until his death.[1]
