David Banni Sr. is an Ivorian politician based in the United States.
He is the founding president of the Parti Patriotique Progressiste de Côte d’Ivoire (PPP-CI), established in 2014, and was a declared candidate in connection with the 2020 and 2025 Ivorian presidential elections.

Political career
[edit]Banni established the Parti Patriotique Progressiste de Côte d'Ivoire in 2014. Ivorian media reported during the 2020 electoral period that he led the PPP-CI while living in the United States and that the party maintained representation in Côte d'Ivoire.[1]
Ahead of the 2020 Ivorian presidential election, Banni declared his candidacy for president. In February 2019, Ivoire Matin reported his candidacy and his call for a new generation of political leadership.[2]
During the 2020 electoral period, Banni proposed reducing the size of government to approximately eighteen ministers, arguing that savings could be redirected toward health, education and employment.[1] In June 2020, he presented a fifteen-point political program that included constitutional and parliamentary reforms and the establishment of what he described as a Fourth Republic.[3]
He was not among the candidates ultimately approved to contest the October 2020 presidential election.

2025 presidential election

On 12 August 2025, the Ivorian newspaper L'Inter featured him in an exclusive interview on the presidential election, identifying him as a declared candidate and examining his political vision. The newspaper highlighted his call for a prudent approach and sincere dialogue amid the political tensions surrounding the election.[5]
Banni was not among the candidates ultimately retained for the final presidential contest.
Diaspora political activity
[edit]Much of Banni's political activity has taken place while living in the United States. His activities have combined leadership of the PPP-CI with advocacy concerning Côte d'Ivoire and the participation of Ivorians living abroad in national affairs.[1]
