David Scott Patchen (born August 15, 1966) is an American glass artist known for his use of cane and murrine techniques in blown glass.

Early life and education

Patchen was born in New Rochelle, New York.^[1]

He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in business. After a career in corporate marketing, he began working with glass in 2001 and transitioned to full-time studio practice in 2012.^[2]

He studied independently and visited the studio of Afro Celotto in Murano, Italy, and later received an artistic merit scholarship to the Pilchuck Glass School.^[3]

Career

Patchen's work incorporates patterned murrine and cane elements in blown glass forms.^[4]

His work has been discussed in publications including Glass Art Magazine^[5] and by the Contemporary Glass Society.^[6]

He has exhibited at art fairs including SOFA Chicago, PAD London^[7] and COLLECT London.^[8]

Patchen has demonstrated at conferences of the Glass Art Society and has served as a guest artist at the Corning Museum of Glass.^[9]

Patchen has demonstrated at international conferences of the Glass Art Society, including events held in San Jose, California (2015) and at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, Washington (2022).^[13]

He has appeared as a guest artist at the Corning Museum of Glass in 2017 and 2022 and participated in cultural exchange programming in Seto, Aichi, Japan.^[14]
