Derrick Asare Agyepong (born May 19, 1997), known professionally as Demzy Baye, is a multifaceted dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and a musician[1]. He also excels as a dance presenter/producer, dance outreach coordinator, dance therapist, hypeman, vocal artist for dance performances, and voiceover artist. Demzy Baye is an integral member and instructor at both the Dance with a Purpose Academy (DWP Academy) and its branch in Ho.[2][3][4][5]
He gained widespread recognition with his creation of the Baye Dance Step, a dance move that went viral several years ago. Demzy Baye further cemented his popularity with his Kings of Dance Challenges[6], which include viral hits like "Yeshua," "Darling Jesus,"[4] and "Defe Defe (Afromix).[1]" These performances have propelled him to the brink of iconic status in the dance community.
Among his devoted followers, known as "The Lidelle Movement Family" or LMF Citizens, he is affectionately referred to as the LMF President[7][8]
Early life
editDerrick Asare Agyepong, better known as Demzy Baye, was born on May 19, 1997, in the vibrant town of Anfoegã Akukume, located in the Volta Region in Ghana. From a young age, Demzy had an innate connection to the rhythm of life, with music and dance being constant companions that hinted at his future career.
Demzy is the son of Mr. Fredrick Agyepong and Miss Edith Srekumah. He attended and Sonrise Christian High School for his Basic and secondary school, where he studied General Science. Following his passion for healthcare, he furthered his education at the Nurses’ Training College in Ho, graduating in 2019 with a diploma in Nursing.[9]
During his school days at Sonrise Christian High School, Demzy met his close friend and showbiz partner[10], Endurancegrand. Together, they navigated the challenges of their early careers and rose to stardom[11].[12][13][14][15]

editDemzy Baye is a professional dancer[6], dance instructor and a musician. He attended Sonrise Christian High School before rising to prominence in the dance world. Alongside his passion for dance, he pursued a formal education at the Nurses Training College in Ho, where he trained to become a professional nurse.[1][16]
Career
editAlthough his profession as a nurse provided stability and purpose, Demzy's true passion lay in dance. He felt a deep yearning for the freedom of expression that dance offered, prompting him to take a leap of faith and leave his stable career behind to pursue his dreams.
In 2018, Demzy joined the DWP Academy after winning the Wosa dance challenge organized by Dancegodloyd for EL's song "Wosa" featuring Joey B. This audition led him to join the academy alongside talented dancers such as Energetic Tymlez, Champion Rolie, Richael, Real Cesh, Lisa Quam, and Afronita. At DWP Academy, Demzy found a community where his passion for dance was celebrated and where he felt a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie. This environment fueled his journey to greatness.
Demzy is the visionary behind the "Baye Dance Step",[17] a dynamic movement characterized by fluidity and expressiveness. This signature step has become a hallmark of his artistic genius, often accompanied by the rhythmic chant of "Baye! Baye! Baye!" which adds to the energy and celebration of each performance.[1]
As a multifaceted internet personality, Demzy Baye is not only a dancer but also a dance instructor, choreographer, and a musician. His decision to leave a stable career led to his emergence as a versatile dance icon, whose talent has inspired many and earned widespread admiration.[18]
Demzy has starred in several high-profile music videos, including "Already" by Beyoncé[19], and videos by artists such as Mr. Eazi, Stonebwoy, MzVee, Gyakie, Shatta Wale, and Medikal. He has performed on prominent stages such as Global Citizen Festival 2023 with Usher,[20][21][22] African Leadership Network with Sherrie Silver, Tidal Wave, VGMA (now TGMA), 3Music Awards, and .
