Destiny: Rising is a mobile game developed by NetEase Games and licensed by Bungie Inc., based on their Destiny game series. This spinoff of the main series is an RPG Shooter with many of the same mechanics and modes as the mainline titles of Destiny and Destiny 2, but it differs most in that it's centered around collecting heroic characters with their own abilities, weapon types, and backstories, as opposed to creating your own custom character.
Story
editThe setting of Destiny: Rising takes place a long time before that of the mainline series entries, set in a time between the Dark Age and the City Age. In this version of future Earth, the discovery of an immense spherical entity known as the Traveler brought many technological advancement to humanity and terraformed many of the worlds of the solar system, but an alien invasion force brought an end to this Golden Age, an event known as the Collapse. The Dark Age followed after this event, with humanity struggling to recover from the damage and ongoing infestation of alien forces. Humanity was saved by the sacrifice of the Traveler, but in a final act before entering its dormant state, it created Ghosts that revived fallen members of humanity and brought them back as Lightbearers, capable of wielding the Light of the Traveler and granting them amazing abilities. These Lightbearers had no clear goal set before them, so many used this power for their own personal gain, becoming Warlords. In time, Lightbearers would rally for the betterment of humankind, following the example of the group known as the Iron Lords. They would battle Warlords and alien invaders alike in order to try and rebuild a new home for humanity. In time this would lead to the construction of a new city directly underneath the Traveler, which would become known as the Last City and give start to the City Age.[1]
Destiny: Rising takes place in an alternate timeline from that of the mainline games, where events might play out differently from the established storyline of Destiny and Destiny 2. Given the time period, this is meant to be a time where Lightbearers are just starting to rise from the struggles brought forth by the Collapse, when their noble goals of bringing humanity's survivors together in order to build a better future are starting to take shape. Players initially play through the eyes of a newly risen Lightbearer, named Wolf, who must make their way over to Haven, an outpost settled under the Light Tree at the outskirts of what will become the Last City. Under the leadership of Lord Radegast of the Iron Lords, players will work toward building a new home and future for humanity.[2]
