Maurice Turner, Jr. (born March 28, 1990), known professionally as Deuce Mayne,[4][5] is an American rapper, and songwriter born in Jackson, Mississippi.[3] He was raised in Shelby, Mississippi[6] and currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona.[7] Deuce Mayne gained recognition after the release of his music video & song, Money (Run It Up),[8] along with his single "Another Homicide (GMIX)"[9][3], where he collaborated with Young Buck of 50-Cent's G-Unit in 2020.[10][11] The song Money was also featured in The Source January 11, 2024. Early life

Maurice Turner, Jr. was born in Jackson, Mississippi on March 28, 1990.[3] Growing up in the Delta region of Mississippi,[13] the poorest state in the U.S.,[14] Deuce has always manifested a better life. The only son and middle child of three children, Deuce turned to Hip-Hop his 9th grade year of High School. When he was two years old, after his parents separated, he, his mother, and siblings moved from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, back to their hometown in Shelby, Mississippi. Later, when he was 14, his father passed away from lung cancer. Struggling with the death of his father at such a young age, Deuce was always getting into trouble. His mother, looking to give him a positive male figure in his life, suggested that he moved with his uncle in Seattle, Washington. After two years in Seattle, Deuce would move back to his hometown in Mississippi and eventually graduated from West Bolivar High School in Rosedale, Mississippi, where Deuce learned that he had a real passion for rapping.[3]

2020–2021: Career beginnings

In 2010, Deuce released his first music video I Got Lean, that generated over 70,000 views on YouTube but was taken down and later re-uploaded in 2020.[15][16] When the music video for I Got Lean was released, it quickly caught fire generating a huge buzz catching the attention of some Texas DJs getting multiple chopped and screwed remixes.[17][18][19][20] Although after Deuce would take some time away from music to pursue a career in Graphic Design,[21] I Got Lean was the beginning of his success as an artist.

In March 2020, on his birthday Deuce released his debut studio single, Quarantine, which was followed up in July 2020, with his second & third studio singles, Swappin Sticks & later Weedie Song in 2021.[22][23][24] The singles were later released on the studio album "God's Son" that would debut in January of 2022.[25][3]

2022–2023: God's Son, Money (Run It Up), Another Homicide (GMIX), and Nervous

On January 1, 2022, Deuce Mayne released his debut studio album, God's Son,[26][3] with single My All.[27] On February 10th of the same year, the music video for the single was released as a tribute to his late fiancee.[28][29]

After the album release, Deuce Mayne collaborated with Young Buck to create his first single of the year, Another Homicide (GMIX), released on February 4.[30] The song generated over 30,000 streams on Spotify[31] and over 5,000 streams on Apple Music.[32][3] The song was also covered in Portugal and referenced to as "A Toast To The Lessons Learned in Another Homicide (GNIX)." [33] Deuce Mayne released his second single, Money (Run It Up), on February 5.[34] The music video was released August 22 and was filmed in a luxurious penthouse in downtown Phoenix.[35][36] The song and music video gained recognition after it was shared by Boosie on his facebook page.[3][37]

In late February of 2022, Deuce Mayne collaborated with Futuristic (rapper)[38] and released the single, Nervous, generating over 200,000 streams on Spotify[39] with the music video being released in March of 2023.[40][41]

2023–present: Poppin and Y.O.L.O

On December 22, 2023, Deuce Mayne released his single, "Poppin".[42][43][44] Back in March of 2022, Deuce Mayne announced on his social media accounts that the album, "You Only Live Once (Y.O.L.O)", would be released in the near future.[45]

Personal life

On December 25, 2021, after almost 4 months of fighting in intensive care, Deuce Mayne would lose his fiancee & mother of his children, Lareesia Wright to complications from Covid-19.[46] She was only 30 years of age at the time of her passing.[47] The lost was devastating according to Deuce, "She was always my biggest supporter and fan. It’s because of her that I really started to believe in myself. After her death, I promise myself I would never give up and keep going even harder than before."[48]
