Dezső Winkler (Tét, 11 July 1901[1] - Budapest, 7 October 1985) Hungarian mechanical engineer, Kossuth Prize winner (1951).
His Life and Work
editHis parents were Ignác Winkler, master butcher, and Etelka Reichenfeld. He graduated in mechanical engineering from the German-speaking Technical University of Brno in 1925. Between 1925 and 1936 he worked as a designer at the Rába Hungarian Wagon and Machine Works in Győr, and between 1936 and 1948 he was chief engineer of the automobile division. In 1948-50 head of the NIK Central Car Design Office, in 1950-51 head of the Vehicle Development Institute (JÁFI) - the predecessor of AUTÓKUT - and first director of the institute between 1951-68. Retired in 1968
It stood out with the development of new tractors, bus chassis, off-road vehicles and diesel engines. He was President of the Vehicle and Engine Engineering Section of the Mechanical Engineering Society.[1]
