Dia Diamond {{IPA|en|ˈdiə ˈdaɪmənd|}}
(2024-present) is a vocalist, songwriter, and producer known for their falsetto vocals.
Biography
editDia Diamond is a Melbourne (Naarm) based queer singer-songwriter and musician. Known for their soulful vocals and reflective lyrics, they use a variety of instruments, including vocals, piano, guitar, and ukulele. Dia is recognised in the Melbourne music scene for their personal, emotionally charged music that often touches on themes of mental health and queer identity.[1]
They write, record, mix, and master all of their own music.[2]
Early Life and Education
editDia Diamond was born in Melbourne, Australia on January 20, 2001. They developed an interest in music at an early age, beginning violin lessons at six and learning the piano at eight. At the age of 12, Dia wrote their first set of poetic lyrics to cope with the grief of losing their family dogs. This formative experience, alongside the inspiration they found in Adele’s sophomore album 21, ignited Dia’s love for songwriting. They fondly remember hearing Adele’s live performance of "Someone Like You," a moment that cemented their desire to pursue music as a career.[3]
Dia completed their primary and secondary education in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Dia is currently working towards their Bachelor of Songwriting and Music Production.[1]
Personal Life
editDia Diamond identifies as bisexual, although frequently uses "gay" and "queer" to self-identify. Their music often explores themes of queer identity, self-discovery, and acceptance.
Much of their songwriting reflects their personal experiences with mental health, including struggles with depression and anxiety.
Through their music, Dia aims to foster a connection with listeners who may share similar experiences, using their platform to highlight important conversations surrounding mental health, healing, and self-love.
Career
editBefore the COVID-19 pandemic, Dia performed regularly at The Woodlands Hotel in Coburg, Melbourne, where they received standing ovations for their live shows. They also performed at open mic nights across Melbourne, using a guitar or keyboard to accompany themselves. At the time, their performances often featured both original songs and covers.
Their debut single, Season of the Diamond, was released on November 25, 2024, and quickly gained traction, amassing over 1,000 Spotify streams within less than two weeks of release.[1]
