Dial Tone is an American alt-rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The three-piece group officially formed in 2023 and released their debut self-titled album in November of the same year. Dial Tone consists of Daisy Forester (bass/vocals), Cole Pivec (guitar/vocals), and Henning Hanson (drums).
History
editDial Tone formed when Forester, Pivec, and Hanson became friends during their freshman year of college at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. The trio began putting together their debut full-length album while beginning to perform regularly across the Twin Cities metro area in 2023, and their poignant, piercing lyricism and infectiously energetic stage presence immediately drew attention to the group from bigger audiences and venues.
2023 was a big year for Dial Tone; the trio competed in and won the University of Minnesota Battle of the Bands competition in April[1], performed on Radio K's Off The Record show[2], headlined at reputable venues across the Twin Cities, garnered thousands of followers on Instagram, and self-recorded, -produced, and -released two singles and a 13-track album inspired by the rich history of alternative music in Minneapolis.[3] Their much-anticipated debut album, Dial Tone, was released on November 17th, 2023, and both the album and its release show at the Cedar Cultural Center celebrated the Minneapolitan musical and cultural heritage that inspired Dial Tone's debut music.[4]
After releasing their debut album, Dial Tone took a six-month hiatus while Forester and Hanson traveled abroad for their studies. Dial Tone has embodied a DIY ethos throughout their musical endeavors, and while spanning three continents the group self-produced and -recorded the entirety of their sophomore release, an extended press titled Time For A Living.[5] The EP was released on July 12th, 2024, and features reimagined, stripped-down iterations of Dial Tone's alt-rock pop-punk anthems. "Dial Tone has every intention of continuing to explore new genres, topics, and ways of engaging in and supporting the independent DIY Twin Cities scene, and zero intention of becoming any more categorizable beyond that."[6]
Less than a year after their first release, the group had garnered over 85,000 streams.
