Diana Hope Nyago is a Ugandan teacher, politician, and sports personality.
Early life and education
editShe was born and raised in Rukungiri by her single peasant mother, after her father died when she was in primary three. She is the middle child of 9 children. She went to Bweranyangi girls' schools before joining King's College Budo for her Advanced Level Education. She later went to Makerere[1] to do her Bachelor's degree in Education. She did her PHD in Education Planning and Management from Uganda Cristian University.[2] She was a teacher at Rock High School before being appointed as a headteacher after being an acting headteacher for two years and she was later transferred to Jinja SS as a headteacher.[2][3]
Career
editNyago started her career as a teacher in 1984 at Rock High School where she was later appointed as acting headteacher before being promoted as headteacher three years later. she was transferred to Jinja Secondary School as headteacher in 2008.[2] While at Jinja SS, Nyago thought it wise to have the students who were gifted in sports play in games and her school girls' team won cricket 8 years straight under the national school cricket. She introduced football to the boys and currently her team plays in the Uganda premier league Busoga United.[3][4][5][6][7]
Politics
editNyago retired from her career as a teacher to join active politics as a member of the Parliament of Buikwe North. She come under The National Resistance Movement where she won the party primaries[8] and represented the party at the general election, where she lost to Ngoya John Bosco.[9][10]
