Downtown July is a Danish indie, alternative, pop-rock group formed in 2020 by Leo Høj (Lead vocals, occasional guitar), Janus Tornehave (Guitar), Søren Baldwin (Bass), and Mikkel Hæk (Drums). They debuted with their first EP Fuld Kontrol/Den Tynde Mur released in June of 2020.
With heartfelt songs full of melancholy and soul, supported by a musical universe that ranges from silky smooth chords to magnificent bursts of energy. The lyrics are honest, centered around the confused emotions and thoughts of youth.
Downtown July makes explosive Danish-language music that draws on genres such as Funk, Soul, Pop, Rock and Reggae, gathered under the umbrella: indie-pop/rock. Downtown July prides itself on being tight and having great synergy, all components have great importance and the cohesion between the band members can be heard and seen in live sets. The hard-hitting grooves and deep timbres flow seamlessly with the lyrics, which hit a broad representation of how a youthful life has many facets - from attempted control to pervasive powerlessness.[1]
