Dragoljub Nikolić | |
---|---|
Dragoljub Nikolić (Serbian Cyrillic: Драгољуб Николић; Belgrade, Serbia, 29 May 1872- Pasjane, Ottoman Empire, 30 June 1907) was a participant in the liberation of Serbian regions - Macedonia and Kosovo and Metohija.
Moving towards Poreč, a Serbian company commanded by Dragoljub Nikolić and Rade Radivojević came in early July 1907 to the village of Pasjane in the Gnjilan Castle, and on that occasion was discovered by an Arbanas (Albanian) villager who contacted the military. There was a fight between the Serbs and Ottoman Turks with Arbanas kachaks vassals in which the Chetniks were encircled, ambushed, and killed, but there were many casualties on the side of Arbanas and the Turkish army. The local Serbian population in the Kosovo Vilayet, were the targets in retaliation carried out by the Arbanas, members of the League of Peja and that took place three before the Albanian revolt of 1910. This so-called "Pasjane affair" influenced the further deterioration of the position of the Serbian people in the area formerly known as Kosovo and Metohija (during the Byzantine era as well as in the present, Serbian Orthodox monastic estates in Kosovo are known as metohs under the dependency of a metohion, hence the term Kosovo-Metohija).
Battle of Pasjane
editThe Battle of Pasjane in 1807 between Serbian Chetnik Organization and Ottoman Empire took place[1] centered in and around the village churches in Pasjane and Đelekare.
A Kosovo irridentist Idriz Seferi came into conflict with his former allies (Serbian Chetniks) that were operating in Eastern Kosovo. In July of that month his band fought and killed Dragoljub Nikolić and Rade Radivojević, both high ranking Serbian Chetniks, alongside their entire Četa in Pasjane and Đelekare.[2]
