Durana Elmi (born February 26, 1980) is an Afghan-American businesswoman knwon as the founder of the health supplement manufacturing company Cymbiotika.[1][2]
Early life and education
editElmi was born on February 26, 1980, in Kabul, Afghanistan.[3] In 1996, she moved to the United States of America.[2] Elmi holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).[1]
Career
editAfter completing her studies at UCLA, Elmi joined T-Mobile, followed by AT&T. Later she served as the director of marketing for the North-East region at Cricket Wireless and worked there until 2018.[1]
In 2018, along with her husband, Shahab Elmi, she co-founded the health supplement manufacturing company Cymbiotika.[1][4] Cymbiotika provides health supplements, combining modern scientific research and Eastern traditional medicine.[2][5]
In 2023, Elmi was named Business Woman of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal and won the 2023 Globee Female Leader of the Year Award. She also received the Female Executive of the Year Award by TITAN Awards in the same year.[6][7] In 2024, she was recognized with the Inc. Magazine Female Founder 250 Award.[8]
She is married to his business associate, Shahab Elmi and have two daughters.[4][9]
