echo3D is a 3D-focused digital asset management (DAM) platform to store, manage, process, edit, and share 3D content. It allows users to manage their 3D asset library in a centralized repository, deliver 3D content in real-time, and promote collaboration and content discovery within their organization. It also offers version control and access management functionalities.

The company is based in New York City and is backed by Qualcomm Ventures.[1][2] It took part in the 2019 TechStars Anywhere startup accelerator program.[3]

Service

edit

The company’s main offering is a 3D digital asset management platform that consists of a 3D-first content management system (CMS) and delivery network (CDN), asset compression and conversion tools, and a BaaS infrastructure. The platform automatically converts and compresses 3D assets, videos, and interactive content and includes features for asset hierarchy, analytics, and usage metrics. In particular, it is used to handle content for 3D, Metaverse, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and spatial computing experiences.[4]

Content Management System (3D CMS)

edit

echo3D provides a central repository for 3D assets hosting with multi-file format support. Users can store, manage, edit, and customize their 3D content in the cloud through either an interface or an API.[5] The platform also includes a library of free 3D models[6] and a viewer to customize and view 3D models in augmented reality.[7]

Content Delivery Network (3D CDN)

edit

echo3D allows users to distribute and stream 3D content from the cloud to different web pages, mobile devices, headsets, game-engines, and platforms.[8] The platform enables automation of content release processes and dynamic set up of 3D content based on the user’s location.

3D Optimization Tools

edit

3D models uploaded to echo3D are automatically compressed and converted to different formats to conform to the requirements of the user’s device or headset and allow for cross-platform compatibility.[9] Supported files include .obj, .stl, .fbx, .glTf, .glb, .usdz, .dae, .zip.[10]

Backend-as-a-Service for 3D

edit

echo3D offers an API allowing developers to set up a backend for 3D apps built using technologies such as ARCore, ARKit, Unity, Unreal, Android, iOS, HoloLens, and Meta Quest.[11] It allows users to save and restore versions of 3D assets in real-time and integrate functionalities for metadata tagging, and version control.[12]

Company

edit

echo3D was founded in 2018 in New York by twin brothers[13] Alon and Koren Grinshpoon.[14][15] Ben Pedzur joined as co-founder and CTO in 2019.

Among the reasons for founding the company, the founders note that today’s 3D applications are single-user experiences with static and hard-to-update content, thus the need of a 3D asset management platform.[16] They also believe that the 3D Metaverse is the younger generation’s social media,[17] that users are in need for tools to make 3D streaming easier,[18] and that, with 5G, echo3D can provide users with ways to stream data fast and efficiently.[19]

echo3D has partnerships with Intel, Nvidia, Zapper,[20] and NextNav[21] for different integrations, including an integration for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Spaces.[22][23]

Startup accelerators

edit

The startup was selected for and graduated from the 2019 Techstars Anywhere class.[24]
