Edgar Jerins
editEdgar Jerins was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1958.
Education
editJerins graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1980 with a four-year certificate. That year, he was awarded an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. Subsequent grants: The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, New York Foundation for the Arts, Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Artists Books, The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts Grant, George Sugarman Foundation Grant (twice), and the E.D. Foundation Grant. In 2014 he received the New York Academy of Art’s Venture Fund Grant.
Personal Life
editIn 1995 Edgar married Alana Teichman (now Alana Jerins) and they have two daughters, Ruby Jerins and Sterling Jerins who are both accomplished actors. Partial credits: Ruby – Shutter Island, Remember Me, Louder then Bombs, and Nurse Jackie. Sterling – World War Z, The Conjuring, Paterson, and the TV series Divorce. The family lives in New York City. Jerin's studio is located in the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts.
Exhibitions
editJerins most recent one man exhibition was entitled "Life in Charcoal" and held at Loomis Gallery at Mansfield University, PA. In 2022 he had a solo exhibition at the Glen Hansen Studio, Southhold, Long Island which was reviewed in The Brooklyn Rail. Other solo exhibitions include the Latvian Foreign Art Museum, Riga, Latvia, Museum of Nebraska Art, Payne Gallery at Moravian College, and two New York City exhibitions at Tatistcheff Gallery. His drawings have been widely exhibited in catalogue supported shows across the US. His drawing and essay are included in the recent survey of figurative art in the Rizzoli book "The Figure: Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture: Contemporary Perspectives" edited by Margaret McCann and published by New York Academy of Art. Reviews include one by Helen A. Harrison in The New York Times, and another Times review by Ken Johnson, Philadelphia Inquirer, and American Arts Quarterly. A feature article “Uomimi in mezzo ai guair” by Lorena Cerbini appeared in Italy’s Arte Magazine.

editJerins painted the studio album cover of one of the best selling Christmas albums of all time: Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Eve and Other Stories released on October 15, 1996. Other album covers are Trans-Siberian Orchestra The Christmas Attic and Beethoven’s Last Night. Savatage albums: Dead Winter Dead, The Wake of Magellon, Poets and Madmen.

editA complete book of Jerins' drawings was published by Goff Books, "Edgar Jerins: Life in Charcoal" in August 2023 and is in its second printing.
