1. 279 SATA Battery was Raised in Faridkot (Punjab) under the stewardship of Leiughtant Colonel R R Vasudev under Head quarter 16 Artillery Brigade on 15 Dec 1981. The unit is one of the oldest and most prestigious SATA Battery of the Indian Army. The unit has proved its mettle in various Operations including Operations Trident, Operations Rakshak, Operations Vijay and Operations Parakram.The unit since its Raising has served in twelve different Divisions spanning over four decades since its Raising. The unit has been awarded One COAS and fourteen GOC-in-C-Commendation Card. The unit created a niche for itself by winning the Overall Championship banner twice while under the orbat of 15 Artillery brigade in 1994 & 1997 and once under 12 Artillery Brigade in 2003. The unit has performed exceedingly well in various Operations & Training events and has also contributed beyond its spheres by creating various innovations. 2. 3. For its outstanding performance during Operations Rinpoche in North East ,District of Sikkim .The unit was awarded GOC-in-C Eastern Command Unit Appreciation in Jan 2023.
