Elise Greig
editElise Greig (born 20 January) is an Australian actor, playwright and researcher, best known for her work on Peppa Pig and her roles in Storage[1]and The Creed and writing the plays Magpie[3], Creche and Burn and the musical theatre work, Florence. She resides in the Gold Coast hinterland with her husband, Tony Byrne, a creative writer, voice-over artist and audio producer. , [2].
Elise holds a Phd from Griffith University, was awarded the University Medal for academic achievement from QUT and she has received four Matilda Awards[3][4] for her contribution to Queensland Theatre.
Early life and education
editGreig was born in Brisbane and attended Queensland Youth Theatre while at high school[5]. She pursued formal education in theatre, including an acting degree from the University of Southern Queensland and honours and master’s degrees from Queensland University of Technology, where she was awarded the University Medal[6]. She has also completed a Doctorate in Theatre Arts[7] from Griffith University exploring the connection between yoga, playwriting and Romani culture, and trained with Shakespeare & Company in Boston[4].
Acting
editGreig is an award-winning actor and has worked professionally across theatre, film and television since 1997. Her acting credits include performances in Reef Break, the Australian premiere of Lot Vekeman’s Poison[8] and the Queensland premiere of Stef Smith’s Swallow[9]. In 2017 Greig received a CentreScreen Award for her performance in the short film, Good Girls, which received international screening[4].
Voice-over work
editGreig is best known for her role as Mrs. Kangaroo in the UK children’s TV series Peppa Pig[10]. Her voiceover work spans various industries, including over 30 commercials for global brands such as Qantas, BMW, and Uncle Toby’s[11] and voice coaching on The Thorn Birds: The Missing Years.
Writing and producing
editGreig is a playwright initiating her playwriting work with her one-woman show, The Romany Project[4]. She has several published works including Hopelessly Devoted[12], a play exploring family dynamics through the music of Olivia Newton-John, Creche and Burn, and Magpie[4] and has her own production company, e.g..[13]
Awards and recognition
editGreig has been recognized for her contribution to the arts, including four Matilda awards [3], three Goldie awards and a Centrescreen award for Good Girls[4]. In 2018, she was longlisted for the Queensland Premiers Drama Award and was Chair of the Matilda Awards Judging Panel[14].
