History

Early End Of The Roll Location, Lower Mainland 1986

End Of The Roll was founded in 1986 by Duane Ortynski and Urs Steinmann.[1]. The business first opened its doors with one location in British Columbia's Lower Mainland.

The two businessmen had already been in the industry for several years building their own independent flooring franchises in their respective Canadian provinces: Alberta and BC. Following an introduction by a mutual flooring representative, Ortynski and Steinmann decided to merge their brands in 1986.

In a short span of just over 10 years, End Of The Roll Flooring Centres then grew to more than 30 stores across Canada. Big changes were on the horizon when the logo changed from a bright red, to a brilliant green [2] as stores began to expand their line-up beyond carpet.

The business franchised, and as of 2024 comprises more than 60 independently owned locations across 5 Canadian provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

The company sells flooring products nationwide, using a "warehouse" style business model encouraging commercial and residential customers business customers to take their merchandise home the same day as purchase.

The business' name "End Of The Roll" derived from to the company’s original product line being comprised of only carpet “roll ends” [3]

By 1996, End Of The Roll Flooring Centres announced it would start selling hard surface flooring and expanded their product line.

Notable flooring products the franchise carries includes laminate, vinyl flooring, hardwood,  tile and cork floors.

In Spring 2016, the company’s corporate headquarters relocated from Surrey, British Columbia to Kelowna, British Columbia.
