Epic Flight Academy is an American flight school that provides pilot and aircraft maintenance technician training. It is headquartered in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. The academy operates FAA-certificated pilot training programs under Parts 61 and 141 of the Federal Aviation Regulations and aircraft maintenance technician schools certificated under Part 147. In April 2025, Flying reported that Epic had become the largest FAA-certificated Part 141 flight school in the United States.[1] In 2026, the academy graduated its first cohort of United States Air Force officers from the Air Force's Initial Pilot Training program.[2][3]
History
[edit]Epic Flight Academy was established in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, in 1999. It subsequently expanded its flight-training operations to airports in several U.S. states. By 2025, the organization operated two FAA Part 147 aircraft maintenance schools.
Epic established its first FAA Part 147 aircraft maintenance technician program in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its inaugural class graduated from the New Smyrna Beach campus in July 2022.[4][5] Epic opened an aircraft-maintenance training facility at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2024. Its first class of students completed the program in 2025.[6][7] In October 2025, the FAA granted Epic self-examining authority, allowing the academy to conduct practical tests through authorized examiners.[8][9]
Epic graduated its first cohort of United States Air Force officers in 2026 from an Initial Pilot Training program. The officers completed private pilot, instrument, and multiengine training before continuing to Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training. Later cohorts completed the program at Epic's campus in Denison, Texas.[10]
In July 2026, Pipistrel, a subsidiary of Textron, named Epic the launch customer for the Pipistrel Voyager, a two-seat training aircraft. Epic agreed to purchase ten aircraft, with options for up to 40 additional aircraft.[11][12]
