The European Helicopter Association (EHA) is a European non-profit industry association representing the rotorcraft and vertical-lift sector in Europe. Headquartered in Cologne, Germany, the association brings together national helicopter associations, operators, manufacturers, suppliers and other stakeholders involved in helicopter and vertical aviation activities.

EHA works to support and promote safe, sustainable and competitive rotorcraft operations across Europe. Its activities include engagement with European aviation authorities and institutions, coordination of industry positions on regulatory and safety matters, and support for technical harmonisation, workforce development and innovation within the rotorcraft sector.

History

The association was established to provide a unified European voice for the helicopter community and to strengthen collaboration between industry stakeholders and regulators. Over time, EHA expanded its scope to include broader vertical-lift and emerging VTOL-related discussions alongside traditional helicopter operations.

In 2025, the association adopted updated Articles of Association and Rules of Procedure to strengthen governance structures, define voting mechanisms and formalise operational committees and advisory groups.

Activities

EHA’s work focuses on several strategic areas:

  • Safety and regulatory harmonisation
  • Policy and advocacy at European level
  • Innovation and sustainability in rotorcraft operations
  • Workforce development and training
  • Industry collaboration and stakeholder engagement

The association contributes to discussions with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), European institutions and international aviation stakeholders on topics affecting helicopter and vertical-lift operations.

EHA also supports the development of position papers, technical working groups and operator advisory activities related to areas such as safety management, training, airspace integration, operational regulation and emerging technologies.

Governance

The association is governed through a General Assembly, Board of Directors, Extended Board and Executive Board structure. The General Assembly includes voting members from across the rotorcraft ecosystem, while specialist committees and advisory groups support technical, safety and communications activities.

EUROPEAN ROTORS

EHA is the owner of EUROPEAN ROTORS, the European rotorcraft event and industry platform developed in cooperation with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The event brings together manufacturers, operators, regulators and industry stakeholders for exhibitions, conferences and safety discussions.

Vertical Aviation International (VAI) acts as the service provider and event management partner for EUROPEAN ROTORS through European Rotors GmbH.

Mission and Positioning

EHA positions itself as a collaborative European platform focused on operational expertise, proportionate regulation and safety-driven policy development. The association promotes the societal value of rotorcraft operations, including emergency medical services, search and rescue, offshore transport and aerial work.

Its communications strategy uses the narrative line:

“Shaping Europe’s Vertical Flight – safely, sustainably, together.”
