"Family Business" is a song by American rapper Kanye West, from his debut studio album The College Dropout (2004). It was released on February 10, 2004, however an earlier version of the song has been found on his 2001 demo tape.[1]
Composition
editThe track contains a piano riff that plays throughout the whole song, performed by Josh Zandman.[2] The track also has a sample of "Fonky Thang, Diamon' Rang" by The Dells. Its lyrics are about family and the importance of being close to them. Its stories are based on ones from West's own life, and also from Tarey Torae's.[3]
Critical reception
editJustin Tinsley of Andscape called it "the perfect song from an imperfect Kanye West".[4]
Legacy
editThe track was sampled on Travis Scott's song, 90210.[5]
