Fiqiri Islami (20 April 1930-19 January 2008), was an Albanian economist, educator and researcher, part of the first generation of intellectuals who established and developed higher education institutions in Albania. After finishing the Asim Zeneli high school[1] in Gjirokastër, he continued his studies in economic sciences at the Institute of Economic Sciences and Planning in Bucharest (Institutul de Științe Economice și Planificare), where he graduated in 1957. After his studies, he continued his academic career where, in addition to teaching, he directed the scientific department of the Faculty of Economics in the University of Tirana, as well as contributed as a researcher at the Institute of Economic Studies at the Academy of Sciences of Albania, as a member of the editorial board of the journal Economic Problems (Probleme Ekonomike) of this Institute, as scientific secretary of the Academy's Committee on Economics, etc. Fiqiri Islami, during his activity as a researcher, has produced a considerable number of publications[2][3], including monographs, textbooks, articles and studies. Also, he has contributed to the drafting of the content of dictionaries [4] and encyclopedia publications in the field of economics.
