Flax Engine is a 3D computer graphics game engine developed by Wojciech Figat[3]. The two core ideas behind the engine are to enable game developers to create beautiful games and do it quickly. Flax Engine's core is written in both C++ and C#. The engine allows for gameplay scripting in C++, C#, and it own visual scripting language called "Visject"[4]. Flax is written to support a wide variety of platforms including Windows, Linux, MacOS, Android, IOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Nintendo Switch[5].
Flax Engine's source code is available on GitHub and commercial use is granted based on a royalty model, with Flax Engine charging 4% of revenues after the product earns the first $250,000 per game per calendar quarter[6].
History
editThe Flax Engine was originally named "Celelej" and was developed using C# and XNA in 2012. In September 2014 the engine switched to use Sharp DX as a graphics API. In April 2015 the engine was rewritten in C++ which included supporting Vulkan[7] and DirectX. On December 1st 2016, the project was renamed from "Celelej" to Flax Engine. Flax Engine 1.0 was released two years after and is now used by various companies and indie developers to create games[8]
