The Basement Yard

[edit]

In 2020, Alvarez joined The Basement Yard as co‑host alongside his lifelong friend Joe Santagato, replacing previous co‑host Danny LoPriore. [1] The show has experienced significant growth since Alvarez’s addition, earning a large online following and expanding into live performances. In 2024, Santagato and Alvarez embarked on their first live tour, culminating in sold‑out shows at iconic venues such as Radio City Music Hall in New York City. [1]

The Basement Yard continued its rise in prominence with the hosts preparing for a major live show at Madison Square Garden in 2025 as part of the New York Comedy Festival. Both Santagato and Alvarez spoke to People about the pressure and excitement of performing at the arena, reflecting on the evolution of the podcast from a basement setup to a large‑scale live event. [1]

In March 2026, Santagato and Alvarez appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers following their win in People magazine’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Poll for “Sexiest Podcasters,” a recognition that brought broader media attention to the show.[2]
