Furies is a 2024 French action drama series created by Jean-Yves Arnaud and Yoann Legave, and directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Samuel Bodin, and Laura Weaver. The TV show stars Lina El Arabi, Sandor Funtek, Marina Foïs, and Jeremy Nadeau. It follows Lyna Guerrab, a young French woman, seeking vengeance for her father's demise. She gets caught up in the criminal underworld of Paris, encountering the Fury, an organization dedicated to maintaining peace and order between the "Godfathers" and the city.
The eight episode series aired on March 1st, 2024, steaming on Netflix in France.
Series Overview
editCollege student Lyna celebrates her birthday with her affluent family this year, instead of with her police officer boyfriend, Elie. When cutting her birthday cake with her parents, her father is shot and killed in front of her. This causes her mother to lose her mind and is placed in a nursing home, with no memory of herself or her daughter.
Unbeknownst to Lyna, her father worked as the accountant for the Godfathers, the criminal bosses of the organization called the Olympus which ruled the Paris criminal underworld. Lyna is unable to identify her father’s murderer. Detective Keita sees Lyna as a link for her to find the person called "The Fury". When Lyna claims that she does not know who The Fury is, Detective Keita throws her in prison. In jail, Lyna is toughened up and she learns many self-defence skills and resilience.
For decades, the Fury has been the one responsible for maintaining order among the Godfathers (the six families of the Parisian criminal underworld) and ensuring that the balance of the criminal world remains undisturbed. Upon her release from prison, Lyna embarks on a journey to find her father's murderer, only to end up being recruited by the current Fury, Selma.
Moreover, Lyna comes to realize that her entire life was a lie, after finding out that she’s actually the daughter of Selma’s brother, Driss. She is forced to part with Elie, who is heartbroken and suspicious about her activities. Detective Keita also recruits Lyna to help her find the Fury, forcing Lyna to act as a double agent.
Lyna is introduced to many Godfathers and the world of crime in Paris, most notably, Orso, a skilled fighter and romantic interest of Lyna, and Damocles, an international mercenary organization known for its ruthless ways. As Selma trains her potential new recruit, Lyna, the pair uncover a dark conspiracy that threatens the criminal underworld.
