GFT Technologies is a German software development company headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany. Founded in 1987 by Ulrich Dietz and Michael Schönemann, the company provides IT services to various sectors, including industry, financial services, and insurance.

History

edit

Ulrich Dietz founded the company in 1987 with Michael Schönemann under the name Gesellschaft für Technologietransfer mbH in Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald. Dietz initially served as managing director and became chairman of the board in 1998.[2]

The company launched its first product, GRIT, in 1990, which later evolved into a BPM suite known as inspire. By 1993, GFT developed systems for Deutsche Post AG.[3] On June 28, 1999, the company went public on the Neuer Markt and began trading as GFT Technologies. Ulrich Dietz and his wife Maria Dietz were the largest shareholders.[4]

In 2001, GFT acquired emagine, an IT subsidiary of Deutsche Bank, and established a new development center in Barcelona with approximately 500 IT banking specialists.[4] The same year, GFT also acquired Rule Financial, renaming it GFT UK.[5] By 2003, GFT had expanded to Germany, Hungary, Spain, and India.[6] The company first operated outside Europe in 2005 by modernizing IT applications for a Brazilian financial services provider and opening a development center in São Paulo.[6]

In 2006, GFT acquired Parity Beteiligungsgesellschaft GmbH, including its subsidiaries Parity Eurosoft and Parity Selection.[7] The company decided to discontinue the BPM suite inspire in 2007, transferring the division to Inspire Technologies GmbH in a management buyout.[8][9] In 2008, GFT moved its headquarters from St. Georgen to Stuttgart.[10] The company sold its software division, GFT inboxx GmbH, in 2010 and refocused on IT consulting, application development, and the placement of IT specialists.

GFT established CODE_n in 2011, an international competition aimed at fostering new IT-based business models, and provided consulting services and office space for start-ups and established companies.[11][12] The company sold its shares in CODE_n in 2021.[13] In 2013, GFT acquired 80 percent of the shares in Italian company Sempla Srl.[14] The acquisition of British company Rule Financial Ltd. in 2014 increased GFT's workforce to around 3,400 employees across eleven countries.[15]

On August 18, 2015, GFT Technologies AG became a Societas Europaea (SE). The same year, the company sold its personnel services division emagine and acquired Spanish digital banking service provider Adesis Netlife SL, expanding its business in Spain and Latin America.[16]

In 2016, GFT acquired Brazilian IT specialist Habber Tec Brazil, growing its presence in Latin America and adding over 100 employees in São Paulo and Curitiba.[17] Marika Lulay took over as CEO on May 31, 2017, with Ulrich Dietz transitioning to Chairman of the Board.[18][19] GFT acquired Canadian IT specialist V-Neo in 2018, specializing in IT solutions for insurance companies.[20]

The company strengthened its industrial strategy by taking over Axoom GmbH in 2019.[21] In early 2021, GFT established a new delivery center in Vietnam and opened branches in Singapore and Hong Kong, China, in 2020.[22] GFT was listed on the SDAX in 2020.

As of December 31, 2022, the shareholder structure comprises a Free float of 64.2%, Ulrich Dietz with 26.3%, and Maria Dietz with 9.5% of the shares.[23]

In March 2023, GFT announced the acquisition of Targens GmbH from Landesbank Baden-Württemberg.[24] The company, in collaboration with Red Date Technology and the Toko initiative, introduced the Universal Digital Payment Network (UDPN), a blockchain-based network for regulated stablecoins and CBDCs.[25] In January 2024, GFT acquired 100% of the shares in Colombian core banking expert Sophos Solutions SAS for approximately 80 million euros.[26] In March 2024, GFT launched the UDPN All-in-One Digital Currency Sandbox, allowing banks to test their systems for digital currencies.[27] Marco Santos succeeded Marika Lulay as CEO on July 1, 2024.[28]

In the 2023 financial year, the company generated EUR 801.74 million.[29]
