Glo-fi is a pop music genre that was initially used synonymously with hypnagogic pop and chillwave. The style has been described by music critic Simon Reynolds as a post-noise microscene.
Etymology and characteristics
[edit]In 2010, The Guardian published an article by music critic Simon Reynolds where he stated "post-noise microscenes like glo-fi" were maintaining "the tape trade tradition, releasing music in small-run editions as low as 30 copies and wrapping them in surreal photocopy-collage artwork".[1] That same year, The Quietus equated "glo-fi" with chillwave and hypnagogic pop.[2] While The New York Times equated the term to chillwave.[3]
