Park Chae-won (Korean: 박채원, Korean pronunciation: [tɕʌn ɦiːdziːn]; born November 19, 2000), known mononymously as Gowon (occasionally stylized as GoWon) is a South Korean singer. She is a member of Loona, its sub-unit Loona yyxy, and Loossemble.
Early Life
editPark Chae-won was born on November 19, 2000 in Incheon, South Korea. She has an older brother and a younger sister. She attended Bakmun Girls High School before dropping out to pursue a career in music.
Career
edit2018-2022: Debut with Loona
editIn January 2018, Gowon auditioned for and joined the company Blockberry Creative after seeing advertisements for the pre-debut members of girl group Loona, which she would later debut with. As part of the group's pre-debut release strategy, Gowon then went on to release her self-titled single album and it's lead single One & Only on January 30.
In March 2018, Gowon featured on the song Rosy on Loona member Olivia Hye's solo debut album.
On April 26, Blockberry Creative announced the impending debut of Loona's next unit, Loona yyxy, including Gowon and her fellow members Yves, Chuu and Olivia Hye. The group released their EP Beauty & the Beat and it's lead single love4eva, featuring Canadian singer Grimes, on May 30. Gowon officially debuted with Loona as a full group on August 20, 2018 with the release of their debut EP [ + + ].
On November 28, 2022, JTBC Entertainment News reported that nine members of Loona, including Gowon, had filed an application for a provisional injunction to suspend their exclusive contract with Blockberry Creative, following member Chuu's expulsion three days earlier.
2023-present: Joining CTDENM, and debut with Loossemble
editIt was announced on January 13, 2023, that Gowon, alongside 4 other Loona members, would not be granted her requested injunction, due to amendments to their contracts. On June 16, it was announced that the remaining five members of Loona, including Gowon, remaining under Blockberry Creative, had won their lawsuits against the company, resulting in the termination of their contracts. Gowon, alongside members Yeojin and Hyeju, signed an exclusive contract with CTDENM on July 5, joining fellow Loona members Hyunjin and Vivi.
She debuted in the group Loossemble under CTDENM with their debut extended play of the same name on September 15.
